A few people think that visiting a dentist in Pasadena for teeth whitening is vain or shallow. There’s nothing wrong with looking for teeth whitening near you. Our smiles are important features of our appearances. A bright smile can give you the confidence boost you need in your professional and social lives.

Why Do Teeth Become Darker?

Chemicals in the foods and drinks we consume can accumulate in the enamel. As these substances accumulate over the years, they lead to staining and teeth darkening. Patients who smoke are more likely to have dark teeth because of the tar and nicotine found in cigarettes and tobacco products.

Most of us can’t live without coffee, but coffee has chemicals called chromogens. These chemicals are also found in red wine and sodas. They contribute greatly to darker teeth. Patients who drink coffee, soda, and red wine regularly should try to cut back. At Marconi Dental Aesthetics, we also recommend that patients quit smoking.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a simple and painless procedure. We use a bleaching gel to remove chromogens and other chemicals that stain teeth from the enamel. Have an important event in a few days? We can whiten your teeth in one visit, but it’ll take about two hours. If you’re not in a hurry, you can visit us a few times for short whitening visits.

We don’t recommend whitening your teeth at home without guidance from a dentist. You might not use enough products to whiten your teeth, or you might use them in high amounts or too frequently. Using bleaching gels too much can damage your teeth. If you would like to whiten your teeth at home, we’d be glad to give you instructions on how to do it effectively without compromising your dental health.
