How Do Dental Bridges Work?
Marconi Dental Aesthetics • April 1, 2021

A missing tooth rarely sits well with anyone. When the tooth is missing at a conspicuous part of the mouth, it takes some sparkle away from one’s smile. When it is missing in an obscure part, it can affect chewing, speech, and pronunciation. It could even affect the shape of one’s face. Dental bridges near you take away all these. They restore your smile and ability to chew when you lose some teeth. They also re-adjust your bite to properly redistribute the force when you chew. More importantly, they prevent the remaining teeth from moving out of place.

A dental bridge is a false tooth or pontic that is held in place by abutment teeth on either side of the gap. They are made of different materials but porcelain blends best with the natural teeth shade. Other materials that are used include composite resin, metal alloy covered in resin, zirconia, and gold. Choosing dental bridges at 77505 depends on your pocket and the durability of the material.

Types Of Dental Bridges

There are four main types of dental bridges in Pasadena, TX . The traditional bridge is made of false tooth/teeth held in place by dental crowns. These crowns are cemented onto each abutment teeth for support.

Traditional dental bridges in Pasadena work best when there are natural teeth on either side of the gap. It is the most popular type of bridge used.

The cantilever bridge differs from the traditional bridge in that it is held in place by a dental crown cemented to one abutment tooth only. Hence, one natural tooth next to the gap created by the missing tooth works fine.

A Maryland bridge uses a framework of either metal or porcelain bonded to the backs of the abutment teeth. This is as opposed to the dental crowns used on the abutment teeth in traditional bridges. It also requires natural teeth on either side of the gap.

Just as the name implies, implant-supported bridges use dental implants for support instead of crowns or metal frameworks. So, each implant is surgically placed for every missing tooth and these implants hold the bridge in place.

A bridge can have a pontic suspended between two implant-supported crowns if one implant for each missing tooth does not look feasible.

Since implants are surgically placed and heal with the jawbone forming support around them, implant-supported bridges are the most stable system.

They also require the most work. Surgery has to be done to embed the implants in the jawbone and place the bridge. Hence, the whole procedure can take as long as several months.

Are There Other Options?

Yes. Dental bridges are not the only option for missing teeth. Dentures work fine but dental bridges are more stable. Dental implants are considered permanent options as opposed to dental bridges in Pasadena that have to be replaced every five to fifteen years.

What Are The Cost Implications?

The cost of dental bridges at 77505 depends on several factors. These include the number of teeth needed to fill the gap, the type of material to be used, and the difficulty of placement.

If there are any additional treatments needed, the cost can also rise. Implant-supported bridges expectedly cost the most. Traditional bridges generally cost more than Maryland bridges. Discuss your options with the dentist to make the right choice.

How To Maintain Dental Bridges

Proper dental hygiene is important. Brush your teeth twice daily and floss regularly. Try to follow your dentist’s instructions concerning dental bridges. Avoid foods that have too much sugar in them. These include candy, popcorn, and nuts.

A well-fixed bridge will last years on end with good oral hygiene. Never hesitate to contact your dentist if you have any issues concerning the bridge. Improper fixing of dental bridges can cause many problems hence engage the services of trusted professionals.
